Self-evaluations give employees an opportunity to reflect on their performance, rate themselves against professional standards, and share supporting evidence. This article walks administrators through requesting a self-evaluation, understanding its status, and reviewing the submitted results.

What Is a Self-Evaluation?

A self-evaluation is a professional development tool that allows employees to:

  • Reflect on strengths and areas for growth

  • Comment on each professional domain and standard

  • Rate themselves using your district's rubric

  • Upload supporting artifacts such as lesson plans, certificates, or work samples

Self-evaluations provide valuable context for evaluation conferences and professional growth conversations.

Before You Begin

To request a self-evaluation, ensure that:

  • You have administrator or evaluator permissions in Lebra

  • The employee has an active profile and email address

  • Your organization has professional development domains and standards configured

Requesting a Self-Evaluation

Steps

  1. Navigate to the employee's profile page.

  2. Select the Self Evaluations tab.

    • Here you can view existing self-evaluations and their status.

  3. Click + Request self-evaluation.

  4. Confirm the request to send the email.

What happens next?

  • The employee receives an email with a secure link to complete the self-evaluation

  • The link is valid for 60 days

  • No login is required; the employee accesses the form directly from the email

  • The self-evaluation status updates to Requested

Understanding Self-Evaluation Statuses

  • Draft - Created but not sent

  • Requested - Email sent; employee can complete the form

  • Submitted - Employee has completed and submitted the self-evaluation

Viewing a Submitted Self-Evaluation

Steps

  1. Open the employee's profile.

  2. Select the Self Evaluations tab.

  3. Locate the self-evaluation with Submitted status.

  4. Select the self-evaluation you wish to view.

You'll be able to review:

  • Employee comments by domain

  • Ratings and comments for each standard

  • Uploaded artifacts and file summaries

Re-Sending a Self-Evaluation Request

If an employee did not receive the email or the link expired:

Steps

  1. Go to the employee's Self Evaluations tab.

  2. Find the evaluation with Requested status.

  3. Open the action menu and select Request self-evaluation.

A new email is sent with a fresh 60-day link.

Deleting a Self-Evaluation

Steps

  1. Navigate to the employee's Self Evaluations tab.

  2. Open the action menu next to the evaluation.

  3. Select Delete and confirm.

Note: Deleting a self-evaluation is permanent and cannot be undone.

Best Practices

  • Set clear expectations for depth and focus

  • Allow adequate time for thoughtful completion

  • Encourage supporting artifacts

  • Use self-evaluations as conversation starters, not standalone evaluations
