Your evaluation framework (also called a rubric) lists the domains, the components or indicators in each domain (some districts call these standards), and the rating levels used to evaluate staff. Where you can view it depends on your role in Lebra. This article covers where administrators, evaluators, and staff members find the framework and its descriptions.
For Administrators: Settings → Ascend → Framework
Organization administrators can view and set up the full framework for every framework role. The Framework page is organized by role: pick a role on the left, and everything about that role appears on the right.
Steps
Open Settings.
Select Ascend, then Framework.
In the left sidebar, under Framework roles, select the role you want to see. Use the search box if your district has many roles.
What you'll find
Framework roles (left sidebar) — the roles in your district (for example, Teacher or Counselor). Each role has its own framework. A warning triangle next to a role means something in its setup needs attention; hover over it to see what. Select Add role to create one.
Rubric (main area) — the selected role's domains, with the components/indicators in each. Expand a domain to see its components, then select a component to open it in the editor beside the list, where you can read or change its description and the description for each rating level. Use Export rubric PDF at the top of the page to print the whole rubric, or Add domain, Add component, and Import JSON to build it.
Scoring & weights (main area) — how much each domain and student achievement measure counts toward a final score for this role, plus a readiness check that lists anything stopping this role from producing a rating. This section only appears for districts with state reporting turned on.
Rating scale (left sidebar, under Shared settings) — your district's rating levels (for example, 1 - Unsatisfactory) in order. Select Edit to rename a level. The rating scale is shared by every framework role, so a change here affects all of them.
Note: Only organization administrators can open Settings → Ascend. Evaluators and group admins can view the framework in the places described below.
For Evaluators: While Adding a Formal Observation
If you evaluate staff but aren't an administrator, you'll see an employee's framework as you work in their formal observation.
Steps
Navigate to the employee's profile.
Select the Observations tab.
Select Add formal observation.
In Step 1: Components/Indicators, review the components the employee chose in their Growth Plan.
In the Detailed Comments step, expand each domain to see every component/indicator for the employee's framework role.
If your district uses rating levels, select a component's Rating field to see the description of each rating level for that component.
Tip: A draft observation is saved as soon as you start entering content. If you only opened the form to look at the framework, close it without typing.
For Staff Members: My Evaluation Rubric in the Staff Portal
Staff members can see the framework they're evaluated on in the Staff Portal.
Steps
Sign in to the Staff Portal.
Find the My Evaluation Rubric card on the right side of the page.
Select View to open the rubric, or Print to print it or save it as a PDF.
The rubric shows each domain, its components/indicators with their descriptions, and — if your district uses rating levels — what each rating looks like. Staff who hold two framework roles see a rubric for each role.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an observation template I can download or edit?
No. There isn't a separate observation template. Formal observations are built from the framework for the employee's role — its domains and components/indicators — plus comment fields. To change what appears, an administrator updates the framework in Settings → Ascend → Framework. To get a printable copy of the rubric, administrators can select a role and use Export rubric PDF, and staff can use Print on the My Evaluation Rubric card.
Are walkthrough look-fors the same as framework indicators?
No. Walkthrough look-fors are set up separately in Settings → Walkthroughs and aren't part of your evaluation framework. Changing a look-for doesn't change your framework, and changing your framework doesn't change your look-fors. See Walkthroughs.
Can I see a different role's framework?
Administrators can: select the other role under Framework roles in the left sidebar. In an observation, evaluators see the framework for the role the observation belongs to.
What does the warning triangle next to a role mean?
Something in that role's setup is incomplete — for example, a domain with no components, or (for districts with state reporting) weights that don't total 100% or a missing evaluation type. Hover over the triangle to read the reason, then select the role; the same warning appears on the section that needs the fix. The triangle disappears once the issue is resolved.
A staff member doesn't see the My Evaluation Rubric card. Why?
The card only appears when the staff member's framework role has components set up. Select the role in Settings → Ascend → Framework and check its Rubric section.
